A cubicle door and an exterior panel may have the same colour without sharing the same material properties. A better starting point for choosing compact laminate is where and how the surface will be used, rather than the colour chart.

What do HPL and compact panel mean?

HPL describes the high-pressure laminate family. Fundermax’s Max Compact Interior specification describes its compact panel as a material made from resin-impregnated kraft layers. This explains the material structure; it does not assign identical performance values to every HPL product.

Distinguish interior from exterior applications

When requesting a quote, specify the application clearly: a dry office, a busy washbasin area, a changing room or an open terrace. The word ‘compact’ is not, on its own, certification for exterior use. Ask the manufacturer for the current technical sheet and installation guide for the selected product code.

Assess the sample under the lighting in which it will be used. A dark surface that looks subtle in a small sample may be more dominant on a large door. Examine the edge colour, surface texture and finish on the same sample.

Do not treat thickness as the only measure of quality

Do not choose panel thickness simply on the assumption that thicker is better. Span, supports, fixing points and loads should be assessed together. Dimensions and installation decisions should follow the technical documentation for the selected system.

Include fittings as well as panels in the project schedule. Turning an attractive surface into a functional system depends on correct machining, careful installation and access for maintenance.

Before you decide

  • Request the product code and application class in writing.
  • Examine colour, texture and edges on the same sample.
  • Include fixing and maintenance details in the quotation.

Sources and scope

Manufacturer sources were reviewed on 24 September 2026. Brand and product properties in those sources do not automatically represent performance or certification claims for Mat Kabin products. Planning advice is general information; final selections should be based on the current technical documents for the specific product.
