The hinge allows the door to move; the lock and strike plate are separate parts of the closing arrangement. Legs, fittings and hooks also need assessment against their conditions of use. Similar appearance alone is not enough when replacing a component.
Keep part codes, panel-thickness compatibility and fixing centres in the maintenance file. Have qualified people replace hardware according to manufacturer instructions. If a lock sticks, investigate the cause rather than forcing the door.
Establish a checking routine suited to the facility
Inspection requirements vary with intensity of use. Rather than adopting a universal fixed schedule, plan around the facility’s usage and manufacturer instructions. Record signs such as rubbing doors, loose fittings and sticking locks.
A small spare-parts list and supplier information at handover can save time later. Set up a simple way for cleaning staff to report technical faults, clearly communicating where and when each problem was observed.
